“Raven”

            True to her name Raven is a beautiful, black standard poodle who likes to scavenge for strange & unusual food sources occasionally.  Early in March ’08, Raven’s owner went out of town and had a friend critter sit.  Raven took this opportunity to hit the deep woods (normally off-limits) and do some opportunistic eating.

            A couple of days later, Raven's owner returned to a vomiting and not-so-eager poodle.

            Raven present approximately 5-8% dehydrated and very lethargic.  Blood work was run and radiographs taken.  No foreign bodies were noted and other than mild pre-renal azotemia & marginally elevated total protein, everything was within normal limits.

            Raven was started immediately on IV fluids, antiemetics, gastro protectants and pain management.

            Over the next twenty-four hours her attitude improved and she began eating small bland meals-keeping them down. At thirty-six hours she had a normal stool and was nearly back to herself.

            Raven is currently in the off season from showing and is hoping to become a mother in the future!
