Youth Horse Camp A Success!
On June 1st, trailer rolled down the gravel roads toward Haymaker Farm full of happy horses and excited children. Over 50 campers (40 with horses) made the trek to the 1st annual youth horse camp hosted by Dr. Ben & Erin Schroeder.
"The goal of the camp was to provide kids with the opportunity to learn in a safe and fun environment." said camp director Dr. Erin Schroeder. "Where I grew up in New York, we had a 4-H horse camp every spring. That was such a wonerful memory for me, I wanted to give kids in the NE Nebraska area the same chance to have that kind of experience."
And that she did. Top trainers from around NE and SD, along with a host of wonderful volunteers helped kids and their horses learn how to become a team. "We plan that this will be a regular event for the first weekend of June," stated Dr. Ben Schroeder. "The kids had so much fun, but the parents and grandparents that came did too! It was great to see the families doing this together."
Children without horses learned and enjoyed as well. Grooming, saddling, bridling, harnessing and mounting were all skills that non-horse campers mastered by the end of the weekend.
